"Audition Technique" with Richard Barth (Resident Director)

Students will gain insight on “the do’s & don’ts” when auditioning for a musical, play, or college theater program from the current Resident Director of The US National Tour of Les Miserables, Richard Barth. Enrollees will be asked to prepare a brief song selection or monologue and receive direct feedback 1 on 1 on every aspect of their audition from the moment they enter the room, until the moment they leave. From clothing tips, to repertoire selection, to how to clearly mark and label your music, learn valuable information on how to prepare and have the most effective and impactful audition possible from the current Resident Director of one of the most iconic and well known musicals in the world, Les Miserables. Prior experience and repertoire required, slots are limited. This session will end with a Q&A with Mr. Barth.


"Song Interpretation" with Paige Smallwood (Eponine)

This master class will focus on helping students gain insight on how to deliver a song with emotional impact and great vocal technique while keeping your audience interested and engaged. Taught by the current Eponine on the 1rst national tour of Les Miserables, Paige Smallwood, students will have the opportunity for 1 on 1 coaching with Paige and direct feedback on how to improve their performance and authentic connection to their material and character. Come and learn how to take a song and create a memorable moment from the actress who beautifully delivers the legendary song “On My Own” nightly in Les Miserables around the USA. Prior experience required, slots are limited. This session will end with a Q&A with Ms. Smallwood.


"Monologues" with Nick Cartell (Jean Valjean)
April 19th, 2019

Having trouble delivering an effective monologue or finding one to use? Students can either select their own, or will be assigned one in advance to work on and perform for direct feedback from the star of Les Miserables in the iconic role of Jean Valjean, Nick Cartell. Nick brings a wealth of knowledge having performed on Broadway in Jesus Christ Superstar and on tour in Phantom of the Opera. Students will gain insight on how to focus in and access your character in a truthful, meaningful way while delivering your monologue. They will also get tips on how to find appropriate monologues that represent contemporary and classical genres. This session with end with a Q&A with Mr. Cartell.


"Scene Study" with J Anthony Crane (Thenardier)
April 19th, 2019

Versatile stage and screen actor, and current Thernardier in the National touring company of Les Miserables, will coach students on pre-assigned scenes, giving guidance on how to analyze the text to find authentic connections betweens the actors, audience, and performance. Seen on Broadway in the critically acclaimed play The Country House starring Blythe Danner and on the small screen in the hit television dramas Madame Secretary and Chicago PD, Mr. Crane’s varied background will assist students interested in working on stage and screen in delivering memorable performances while connecting authentically with your scene partner. Each pairing will receive 2 on 1 coaching and direct feedback from Mr. Crane. Prior experience required, slots are limited. This session will end with a Q&A with Mr. Crane.
